BRE 500: Special Topic – ProMax Exercise: Equipment Rating/Sizing - Columns & HEX

Instructor-led demonstration is followed by hands-on exercises. ProMax will be used in this session, which will take 3.5 hours. Agenda

This exercise is designed to provide detailed insight into rating and sizing of selected process equipment - columns and heat exchangers. The column sizing portion reviews important input and output parameters in a distillation column calculation. Emphasis is given on column hydraulics, flooding, and pressure drops for various column internals: trays, random packing, structured packing, or a combination of those. The second part focuses on heat exchanger rating. After an overview of heat exchanger types which can be evaluated by ProMax, the rating capabilities are demonstrated on an exercise during which attendees solve a series of practical problems with a shell-and-tube heat exchanger.
