Reactor Specification in ProMax

Reactor specifications vary depending on the Reactor Type, Reactor Configuration, and whether or not the Reactor is adiabatic. All Reactors require some specifications in the Reactor block dialog. The Reactor Type is a required specification. Choices are: Conversion, Equilibrium, Gibbs Minimization, Plug Flow, and Stirred Tank. To access available specifications in the Reactor block, first open the Reactor block dialog by double-clicking on it in the flowsheet view, or by double-clicking on the Reactor in the navigation tree on the left side of the Project Viewer. Then click the Process Data tab. All Reactors require a Pressure Drop specification which is user-specified unless the Reactor uses a catalyst, in which case the Pressure Drop may be calculated using a selected correlation (see Reactor Friction Factor and Pressure Drop Calculations for further information). Single-Sided Reactors with an Energy Stream attached usually have Heat Duty or outlet stream Temperature specified. In addition to Reactor block specifications, the Conversion, Equilibrium, Plug Flow, and Stirred Tank Reactors require a Reaction Set to be specified for use in the Reactor. The specified Reaction Set must be installed in the Environment to be available for use in a Reactor. ProMax Help has a number of examples instructing the user how to set up each type of reactor.
